Dealing With Challenges Setbacks and Frustration

frustratedkitty2Can we talk?

Let’s face it, building anything of value takes time and to be quite honest with you sometimes things won’t go the way you want them to go.

So what do you do when stuff happens?

Whenever I have one of those days where I just feel like throwing up my hands and packing it in I always think about a short story a friend of mine once told me.

It was about a guy who worked as a carpenters apprentice.

He was not exactly a spring chicken and one day while he was on the job he was hammering some nails into a two by four when he missed really bad and whacked his thumb something awful.

I mean he really slammed it pretty bad and ended up going to the hospital to get it taken care of.

But despite the amount of pain he endured he still came back to work the next day.

His coworkers were amazed to see him considering the yell they heard him let out the day before and even his boss assumed he would probably milk the situation and take a few days off.

He could have. But he didn’t.

You’re probably wondering why right?

Well his boss did too and so he called him into his office.

He came in, shut the door and took a seat feeling kind of nervous.

In his mind he was thinking that he was probably going to get laid off so he had a measure of anxiety rolling around in his gut, until his boss said to him: “I thought for sure you were going to be out today. How come you didn’t stay home?”

The reply was simple…

“I got mouths to feed”.

“You see sir, I got 4 children at home and my wife don’t work. So I can’t afford to lose any time off from work.”

“But your thumb must be killing you”, his boss replied.

“Yeah, it hurts a bit, but to tell you the truth, the moment I hit it with that hammer, the first thing I thought about was my wife and kids.”

What’s the Point?

The point is that sometimes you’re going to figuratively hit your thumb as your building your internet business.

Your site might get hacked.

Your hosting company might have a hiccup.

Your computer might get infected with malware or some other hideous virus.

But the fact of the matter is that if your motivation for doing what you’re doing is strong enough…

The show must go on.

Make sense?

Life happens and one of the things I’ve had to learn the hard way is that it’s not about what happens to you, but how you handle it that makes the difference in your chances of becoming successful at whatever it is you want to do.

There are many times despite my own experience that I sometimes forget this and it’s usually around that time something happens to serve as a reminder.

Well that’s my thought for the day.

Hope you found some encouragement in there somewhere.
