Does The Word "Business" Frighten You?

When it comes to starting a business and generating profits, it can sound very intimidating. Especially if you’ve never started or run a business before. Often times you’ll hear of individuals who are succeeding online talk about “taking their business seriously”.

What Does Business Mean To You?

If you’re a housewife or an employee working a job, how do you develop a business mindset that results in profits? Let’s take it back a notch and start out with the definition of the word… business.

Business, n.  occupation, employment; Pursuit; Undertaking; concern,  matter, task, assignment, work, job.

O.k. based on the definition of the word ‘business’, it should become readily apparent to you that you are already in business. As a matter of fact if someone were to criticize the way you handle your business, you might be quick to tell them to… mind their own business. True?

So the thought of going into business is really just a matter of learning a new kind of activity that will generate income. You might be wondering what brought this topic to mind, so allow me to share that with you now.

Why Is This Important To You?

Actually I should have said, why should you care? Here’s why, because the reason so many people fail when it comes to building a ‘business’ online is due to a misunderstanding of what the word actually means.

For some, myself included, the word business used to conjure up mental pictures of well dressed businessmen in $5k suits carrying a briefcase and attending meetings in fancy boardrooms. Where there would be other select individuals each with IQ’s of 350 brainstorming their next mega plan.

Wow, I don’t know about you, but that’s definitely not me. As a result this would cause an adverse reaction for me mentally, whenever it came to thinking about starting my own business, let alone one on the internet.

Is That How You Feel?

Do these same mental pictures pop up in your head when you hear that word? Well let’s clarify something here.

You are already in business. If you run a household, keep a job or go to school, you are already in business. Does your business generate profits? I’m sure it does because the bills are getting paid somehow. Can you improve the quality and profitability of your business? Sure, they say the biggest room in the house is the “room for improvement”, so it can be done.

The key take away here is that if you want to succeed online, then be at your business with the same consistency that you apply in all of your other businesses or undertakings (work, school, home, etc.)

The success stories that you read about concerning the internet are as a result of individuals who basically apply the same principles of commitment and consistency in the offline world, to the online world.

When it comes to doing business, what works for one person might not work for another. When someone tells me about a particular technique they use to get their kids to sleep at night, that’s great, but I also know that what they’ve shared may not necessarily work for my kids, because I know my kids.

Similarly, you know your business. So don’t allow yourself to be stretched thin to the point of going out of business, because you tried to apply everyone else’s techniques to your business. Make sense? This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be open to new ideas, but that’s what the suggestion box is for:)

Now go take care of business,

Nando

I think you raise an excellent point. Mother’s are skilled at multi-tasking and tend to be great managers.

  • I think anything that you can do where you make more money than goes out can be considered a business.
