Follow The Leader

Do you remember playing follow the leader when you were a kid?

It was pretty fun when you didn’t have much else to do.

I remember doing some pretty stupid stuff just to try and make it a little more interesting.

Stuff like climbing up on my neighbors garage and jumping off the roof onto an old worn out mattress.

Yeah… stupid stuff.

But at the time it was fun, so we did it.

It’s funny how the mantra for success sounds a lot like that old game of follow the leader.

I’m sure you’ve heard it before…

“Do what successful people do, and you’ll get what successful people get.”

But that may not be the best course of action especially if what they’ve done to get where they are isn’t something you’re willing to do.

Saying that makes me think of marketers that made what they thought was a good decision to partner or joint venture with someone whose reputation was less than desirable.

Eventually that method of operation brought what could have been a flourishing enterprise to a screeching halt.

Because of a short sighted desire for immediate gain, they continue to endure the pain of a damaged reputation because of whom they chose to associate with.

It’s the natural instinct of humans to “follow the leader”, ¬†just make sure that the person your following is leading you to success from your perspective and not into a brick wall.

(Gets down off of soap box and blends quietly into the crowd.)
