The Story of Search Engine Optimization in 2012

Search engine optimization has been a really hot topic over the last couple of years.

Dozens of seo information products and software can be found all over the internet.

Webmasters started creating exclusive networks of blogs for the purpose of getting easy rankings fast on Google, Bing and Yahoo.

But then came the ‘panda update’ and then the ‘penguin update’ and all of sudden people started to lose their once high rankings.

If there is one thing that has always stood the test of time in terms of search engine optimization it’s good quality content.

But good quality content is not all that’s required nowadays.

In addition to coming up with unique content that attracts backlinks, the need for a diverse linking structure and votes from social media sites have made many a little ‘gun-shy’ about relying on high rankings in the search engines.

Then there is the issue of the ‘bounce rate’. Not only do you have to come up with content that will attract readers and backlinks but it has to keep your readers around a lot longer than 2.3 seconds.

As dauntless as things may seem, the solution is very simple and that is to address the very areas that have been discussed in this article.

Generate unique quality content that attract backlinks from around the web.

Build backlinks from diverse sources throughout the web. Don’t get caught up with getting 10,000 forum backlinks or 5,000 dofollow blog backlinks in thirty days, because these do not look natural to Google and will only turn out to be a big waste of money.

Start looking for guest posting opportunities as well as other ways to get your content syndicated all over the net and last but not least look for ways to link to other articles on your site to decrease the bounce rate and increase the amount of time your readers stick around on your site.

Search engine optimization is not dead in 2012 but it will take a little more work to achieve solid rankings that won’t disappear every time there is a new update.
